WA State Champs This Weekend

first_imgThe 2009 Be Active WA State Championships are here again, at Lightning Park in Noranda Park, starting Friday 27 February until Sunday 1 March.44 teams from all over WA are playing across seven divisions.In the Men’s Open division, Fremantle will look to add to their Super League Title, which was their first in 20 years. They will face a challenge from Perth Brothers, Tompkins Park and last years champions Southern Stars.In the Women’s Open, the Northern Spirit will look to go for three titles in a row, with players such as Zoe Daley and Shelley Matcham, who has moved from Southern Stars, to boost an already strong side. The Perth Brothers will challenge. Northern and either Southern or Brothers will most likely meet in the Grand Final.The Mixed Open division looks a lot more open, although Perth Brothers will start favourites. Three new teams will contest the division, with Peel Districts, the Brighton Beach Titans and Tompkins Park Sharks all joining.In the Women’s 27’s, last years champs Rosalie will start favourites, but they will face competition from Goldfields, who are based 700km away and Karratha, who by coming from 2500km away, are not just there to make up the numbers.Rosalie are also favourites for the Men’s 30’s division, with many of last years Mixed Opens players moving to Men’s 30’s and will bolster the side. Last years champions Northern will look to go back to back and be stiff competition for Rosalie.The Women’s 35’s is a very open contest, with Southern looking to go back to back and put in a strong performance.In the Men’s 40’s, Fremantle will be tough to beat, although it will be made tough from teams such as Geraldton, who are looking to build on a successful 2008 campaign.Good luck to all those participating.For more info, please visit the website – www.statechamps.com.aulast_img
